How to Become More Energetic

The number one cause of complaint regarding health issues in the western world, is that of fatigue. Almost everyone seems to suffer from a lack of energy at some time or other and for some it is an almost constant concern. It is no surprise that many people seek ways in which to become more energetic and the market is flooded with products that claim to do just that.

There are a few things that you can address which will have an enormous impact on your energy levels.

Exercise

This is perhaps the hardest of all to implement for people already feeling fatigued and lacking energy but many scientific studies show that even a small amount of regular exercise actually boosts energy levels over a period of time.

It has long been known that levels of dopamine, serotonin and norepinephrine increase during exercise. These are the body’s neurotransmitters responsible for mood enhancement and energy levels. They are the reason that people who begin exercising get ‘addicted’ to the feel good factor experienced.

Exercise will also increase our heart rate and blood flow, thus increasing oxygen supply around the body. All muscles and soft tissue need oxygen in order to function effectively.

Exercise doesn’t have to be expensive trips to the gym or something that takes an enormous amount of time from your day.

Many people often fall by the wayside with exercise regimes and some of the main reasons given for this are lack of time and not enjoying the activity. Remember that any exercise is better than nothing at all. Even five minutes a day of walking fast will have benefits although of course it will take longer and be less effective than a more prolonged or intense activity.

Be sure to choose something that you really enjoy. Some people are just not suited to the gym but there are now literally thousands of options for exercising from those you can do in your own home to those you can do with groups of like minded people. Taking part in an exercise regime that bores you will only result in misery an then giving it up.

Eliminating Toxins

It is almost impossible to avoid overloading our bodies with toxins; a walk outside will see us breathing in toxic fumes from traffic, most of the cleaning products we use on a daily basis are loaded with chemicals, food and drink can be full of chemical ingredients and our toiletries and beauty products are full of them.

A body loaded with toxins will feel lethargic and energy levels will be low. If your body is toxin heavy then start drinking plenty of water which will literally start to flush out your system. Many herbal supplements and herbal teas are also useful for clearing toxins from the body. Massage can also help.

Once you have removed excess toxins from your body, be more aware of introducing them again. You can make your home chemical free by using natural cleaning products made from cheap, non chemical ingredients. There are also many home-made natural alternatives to shampoos, soaps, face creams, hair dyes and so on.

Be aware of food labeling and ingredient lists when you are buying your food to avoid ingesting large amounts of chemicals that build up in your body.

Diet

What we eat of course plays an enormous part in our levels of energy. The body is an extremely complex machine that needs all of the right fuels to keep it running at its optimum level.

We hear a great deal about junk food but many people are unclear what this really means or why these foods are so bad for us. Put simply, junk foods are those that require our bodies to use up more energy in their digestion than they give us in return in the way of nutrients. We may feel full but have less energy than when we started.

Too many simple carbohydrates in our system promote an endless cycle of crash and burn. Simple carbohydrates are sugars which raise our blood sugar levels and give us a burst of energy. The raised blood sugar triggers a reaction from our body’s insulin producer which works to lower the blood sugar levels again. Blood sugar levels crash and we crave more sugar and on it goes.

More recently, a lifetime study by American doctor Peter D’Adamo has led to the discovery that different blood types dictate what is and what isn’t healthy for our bodies to eat. His whole work, explained in his book ‘Eat Right 4 Your Type’ has changed the lives of millions of people, some of who had been suffering from chronic fatigue symptoms for years.

I am personally able to testify that following Dr D’Adamo’s findings led to my own recovery from a seven year spell of severely debilitating chronic fatigue.

Dr D’Adamo’s finding could well be the explanation as to why certain diets work almost as miracles on some people but have quite the opposite effect on others.

Reducing Stress

Stress levels also play an enormous part in what energy reserves we have. Constant stress is a constant energy drain and will leave us feeling worn out even when our lives are otherwise sedentary and requiring no physical exertion.

It is thought that all of the negative emotions such as anxiety, anger, guilt, frustration and misery have an enormous impact on energy levels.

There is no quick fix way to boost energy. Anything that claims to do so such as caffeine, glucose energy drinks and the like may give us a temporary burst of energy but will actually lead to even lower levels of energy in the end.

In summary the most effective ways to become more energetic are:

  • Feed your body healthy nutritious food and consider exploring the benefits of Dr D’Adamo’s findings.
  • Exercise regularly even if only for a few minutes – anything is better than nothing
  • Clear you body of toxins and take steps to keep it that way. Make your home chemical free.
  • Find ways to eliminate or reduce stress wherever possible.
  • Consider herbal supplements and herbal teas to aid energy levels and to help with detoxification.
