Does Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) Work?

Does Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) Work? Let us find out.

What is Emotional Freedom Technique Or EFT?

EFT has been around since the 1960s and has undergone several development stages since then. It is a system used to treat a variety of conditions including anxiety, phobias, addiction and pain especially chronic pain.

What does it involve?

EFT is a very simple treatment and totally pain free. It involves the patient or practitioner ‘tapping’ certain points located on the body whilst saying positive and affirmative statements out loud. Because the principle is so simple it sounds almost too good to be true but so successful are results that many doctors are now referring patients themselves to EFT practitioners and endorsing its positive benefits.

How does Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) work?

Emotional Freedom Technique works on the principle that the root of all emotional problems stems from blockages or restrictions in the flow of energy through the body. The concept of ‘chi’ is thousands of years old and is used in treatments such as acupressure and acupuncture. It is thought that there are certain pathways or ‘meridians’ that map out these energy flows and at certain places in the body they are more accessible. EFT utilises these points to tap straight into the source so to speak. Several of the tapping points are located on the face and head.

Studies of brain wave patterns whilst an individual is tapping on the EFT points have shown activity in the area of the brain responsible for the deep subconscious.

How to get started with Emotional Freedom Technique?

EFT is something that you can do at home and there is a mine of information both on the Internet and in books regarding how to go about this. Self treatment has shown many successes but if you are unsure, or would like more guidance when you are first starting out,  then there are many reputable EFT practitioners.

What results can I expect from EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique)?

For many, EFT’s results have been so instant that the word miracle cure is something used a great deal in its description. For others, improvements are gradual but still ultimately positive and highly effective. Practitioners say that some problems that have manifested themselves in clients have developed as a result of many different root causes and all of these need to be addressed before a cure can be total. Claims of its success rate vary from 50% up to 90% but this could be explained by the different ways in which success is measured and also the effectiveness of the practitioner himself.

A scale of 1 to 10 is used to determine what progress is being made and is constantly checked against. For example, a client being treated for a phobia will be asked before treatment starts “on a scale of 1 to 10 how scared are you if you think of sitting an exam/ spiders/ making a speech in front of many people”. As the treatment  progresses the question will be asked again to monitor effectiveness.

Whatever the reason for the difference in statistics it can still be observed that success rates are extremely high.

One of the factors practitioners say plays a significant part in determining success is the wording of the spoken affirmations. These need to be very specific.  Affirmations are normally worded as “even though I am very frightened of …………or “even though I am far beyond the weight I want to be……. and then followed by the problem. This where it is very useful to seek the advice of a practitioner to ensure this area is being broken down properly.

In some well documented cases EFT has succeeded where all else has failed including both physical and psychological instances.

Is Emotional Freedom Technique for you?

It is easy to understand why even the most open minded of people may feel a little sceptical of the EFT process. It really does seem like it must be too good to be true as it is so simple. Individuals have, in the past, only sought out EFT in desperation or as a last ditch effort to address a problem that is seriously affecting the quality of their lives. As the reports of EFT’s effectiveness and its endorsement by medical professionals continue to rise it should perhaps start to be one of the first ports of call for sufferers.

The bottom line is that no-one truly knows for sure how EFT works which is why even the most experienced of EFT practitioners can seem a little vague when explaining it. Don’t take this to be a proof of its inability to help. Results speak for themselves.  Not all things need to be fully explained by that great god ‘Science’ to be true.
