You Can’t Get What You Want, Until You Know What You Want (Excerpt from SZEN Zone)

Written by:

You can have the most powerful and strongest flashlight in the world, but if you’re in the wrong cave you won’t find a thing.

Until we know what we’re looking for, nothing else can happen. No answers can be found, no solutions will arrive and no peace can join us on the journey, unless or until we know where we’re headed and why

“You can’t get what you want, until you know what you want” – to quote a song.

In this context life is so very simple. All we have to do is imagine what we want for our lives and then move toward it.

What happens sometimes though is we invest in getting the latest flashlight and go exploring in the wrong places. It becomes a frustrating adventure, like putting in the wrong GPS coordinates and wondering why we’re not where we wanted to be. The trip offers no closure or reconciliation and never seems to satisfy. It’s not that we’re doing it wrong, it’s that we’re not looking toward the right spot to find our heart’s calling.

The flashlight salesman can tell us how to use it, but not what to shine it on. That’s our job and that journey begins within. However we may evaluate what we truly desire, we all need to have one of those “aha” moments – light bulb goes off, spontaneous awakening, epiphany or whatever else you want to call it, that becomes the flash point for our next chapter.

From there our vantage point improves because now we know what we seek. And once we know that, we know where to seek it. Right cave, right light – bingo!

Szenippet: The wink of a single thought holds the power to illuminate our path. One single, elegant, clear- minded thought is all we need to change our world.
