Focus On What Feels Good (And Happiness Will Follow)

In truth, I tell you one thing. Happiness can only be found when one chooses to let go of all the conditions that made them unhappy in the first place.

These conditions are self-imposed. False perceptions or desires that we adopt, under the notion that when we obtain them, we will suddenly reach a state of happiness.

Happiness is Internal

What we fail to understand is that this “state of happiness” is a state of mind. It’s internal. It’s the one thing you have control over, whether good or bad goes on around you externally.

Isn’t that nice to know? There’s comfort in knowing that you have a choice in how you feel. But there’s also angst in forcing yourself to be happy, when clearly you feel the other.

So, you may be wondering then, how do I improve my mood? And I ask you in return, what do you desire so much, that in wanting it, it is making you unhappy? What conditions have you built your life around that are in fact limiting you from achieving inner peace?

Did you tell yourself that you needed to be a certain weight to feel beautiful? Did you believe that you will only feel complete when you make a certain amount of money? Whatever goal that you linked your happiness to, it’s not helping you. It’s time to let that condition go.

Happiness is About Accepting the Present Moment

I often use the words happiness and acceptance synonymously. Happiness is in the “now.” It’s about accepting where you are in the present moment while still looking to the possibility of the future with excitement.

I’m not saying to throw all of your desires out the window. The negativity, the inner critic and the conditions on these desires that put your happiness out of reach are the things you cannot keep.

I’m sure you’ve heard the phrase before that when you are happy, everything flows. For now, focus on what feels good and watch how more good comes into your life. Trust that your deepest passions will soon be achieved and your life journey will unfold the way it is meant to be.
