Loss of any form leaves a gap inside us for a while. Many of us take a lot of time to just come to terms with it. But the truth of life is that every loss brings with it the seed of a new beginning. With the right attitude you can not only overcome the stress of losing a job but also pave the path for a new venture in your life.

Here are a few pointers on how to cope with the stress of losing a job

Accept your situation completely – Some of us have the tendency to resist what is. We try to block our emotions when we are faced with a loss. It’s not only important to accept your loss mentally but also physically. Give yourself some silent space and allow yourself to feel the entire gamut of emotions passing through your body. Don’t try to drown your emotions by taking drugs, alcohol or any sedatives.

The emotions going through your body are actually energy forms that need to be released in order to move on from a loss. It’s normal for a swirl of thoughts to pass through your mind and reactive emotions to well up in your body. Just be aware of them and let them be for sometime till they subside on their own.

The biggest mistake people make when faced with a loss is to suppress their emotions and thoughts. Just imagine the emotions to be pent up energy that need to be released. Surrender for a while and the emotions will burn themselves out, it will come as a relief to you.

Allow yourself the space to do “nothing” for a few days – Know that any activity you under take when you are stressed, panicky or anxious will usually end up as a failure because of the negative energy you emanate while performing it. So don’t be too hasty about floating your resume around and calling up companies. Allow yourself some space to settle down and come to terms with your life situation. It’s best to spend some time consciously doing nothing but staying silent. Just the act of staying quiet in the mind is enough to help generate new ideas you would never have known in a state of panic. You don’t necessarily have to stay at home,

  • You can go down to a park near your house and just sit in nature for while, it can be very soothing and refreshing
  • Head for a mountain or hill side and just enjoy the calm around you
  • Go to the beach and sit still absorbing the abundance of creation

It’s important to give yourself this “quite time” to handle the stress of losing your job. When your mind is relaxed in this manner, it will stop being anxious and panicky. You can take better decisions with a calm and relaxed mind.

Evaluate your options calmly – Take your time to think out all the various options you have. Don’t jump to any conclusions. A job loss may be a great opportunity to try out new ventures you’d always dreamed of. Many people feel blessed at being fired from their job because it frees up their energy to invest in a business they always wanted to start but never had the guts to take initiative.

If you just stay calm and contemplate deeply you can come with a variety of options.

  1. Think of starting a business of your own as a consultant or agent
  2. Contemplate moving to a new place or even a new country if you want to be adventurous
  3. Think about joining an educational or training course that can help you take up a job in a totally new line of your interest
  4. Think about taking up a small part time job while you consider your options

When you panic you see dead ends everywhere, but when you stay calm and get attuned to your deep intuition you will amazed at the opportunities open to you.

The best advice is to stay in touch with your inner intuition and stillness. Your mind will go all anxious and erratic; it will even start spinning horror tales about your future. Don’t believe in any of it. There is no truth to any thought. Let life guide you, this can only happen when you don’t give in to the noise in your mind.
