Ideas For Inexpensive Table Centerpieces

Looking for inexpensive ideas for table centerpieces? Choosing the right centerpiece for a table setting can be a big decision. They are normally used at formal occasions that are particularly significant in an individual’s life for example weddings and christenings.

Centerpieces can be an important factor in scene setting. They are making, on your behalf, some kind of statement about what the occasion is and the mood of it.

Different items will need to be chosen depending on what you are trying to say. Is your message this is a fun occasion or are you trying to convey that it is somber: are you wanting a classic or a contemporary theme?

Whatever the occasion there are many ways in which you can create table settings that your guests will talk about for a long time afterwards.

Conventional Candles
The possibilities here are incredibly varied and can match pretty much any mood you are trying to achieve. For a classy theme very little can beat simple groupings of white or cream pillar candles of varying sizes and wrapped about with ivy or some other natural foliage.

The great beauty with candles is that they come in practically every color you can imagine so no matter what your color scheme you will be able to find something to match.

Mirrors, glass chips and crystal can be used to great effect with candles. The light will bounce off them and create a lovely atmosphere.

Floating candles
This is my absolute favorite. Clear glass bowls seem to work the best for holding the candles but any container can be used to good effect including pottery, silver or brass. Bowls can be grouped or placed singly on tables depending on their size, perhaps one large bowl or several smaller ones. Shallow, wide surface bowls are much more successful as you can place more candles in them without making them look cluttered or over crowded.

Crystal chips can be placed in the bottom of the bowls, if they are clear, to use contrasting colors or to reflect light from the water.

Table confetti can also be floated on the water as can rose petals or something similar for a romantic touch.

Sugared Almonds
Although these are more commonly used as small ‘favors’ at wedding receptions I have recently seen one of the most stunning but beautifully effective centerpieces as a variation on this theme. Large glass bowls were filled with pastel colored sugared almonds and the bowl edge was decorated with the same color flower heads.

Helium Balloons
These are a great way to say this is a fun occasion. Groups of balloons tied together and weighted into the center of the table are very eye catching. Again, color schemes can be adhered to and the balloons themselves come in a variety of shapes and designs.

It is much more convenient and saves costs to hire a helium canister for the day. This will then be on hand should any of the balloons start to sag and spoil the display.

Flowers
The great classic and all time favorite. As with candles the variations on a theme are endless and are only confined to your imagination. Try using shells, pine cones, leaves and twigs as part of your display to give it a different twist.

A lovely variation on a theme for flowers is to use a bowl similar to that for floating candles but instead of floating candles use flower heads. Large flower heads work best for this and a helpful tip to keep the flowers looking fresh is to add a few ice cubes to the water.
