Are Microwave Heated Slippers Beneficial?
As the temperature outside drops, so do the temperatures in our hands and feet. This colder state often exacerbates issues, such as previous injuries and arthritis, causing pain. Some people will take pain medication when this happens, others will put on several layers of socks, and some ready for their heated slippers. Heated slippers come in a variety of styles, but all of them are microwavable to get them nice and toasty warm. Beyond the obvious luxury, are microwave heated slippers beneficial?
How Do Microwave Heated Slippers Work?
Most heated slippers use at type of grain to accumulate the heat, commonly buckwheat or flax seed. Some also include certain herbs or essential oils to provide an aromatic experience as well. You place the grain packet or slipper into the microwave and heat it for the required amount of time. Once heated slip them on to your feet and relax. Most slippers will stay warm for one to two hours. Some manufactures claim longer.
Health Benefits of Microwave Slippers
The first obvious benefit to microwave heated slippers is warm feet. While plain slippers can keep your feet warm, sometimes they just aren’t effective enough. A heated slipper will radiate heat into the slippers rather than just trap body heat as it escapes your feet.
You apply heat to soothe an old injury, so can microwave slippers help relieve foot pain? Yes. The degree of relief varies from person to person, but the application of gentle continuous heat, soothes aggravated joints and nerves. Many arthritis sufferers have reported significant relief from pain by using heated slippers.
Some manufactures claim that heated slippers will help improve circulation. While there is minimal evidence to support this claim it does make logical sense. Warm feet need more blood, so circulation to your feet should improve while wearing the slippers. This would only be a temporary improvement.
Types of Heater Slippers
There are many different types of heated slippers. Some are full booties covering your feet and lower half of your leg, others just come up to your ankles and some just cover the front of your foot and toes leaving the heel exposed.
Some slippers have a removable packet of grain that you can heat up and insert into the sole of the slipper. This makes it much easier to wash the slippers. Some slippers have the grain packets sewn into the soles of the feet, and sometimes around the food area. This can provide more heat to the foot, but is significantly harder to wash.
Most slippers are not meant for walking around in. A few manufacturers say that you can do light walking, like from your couch to the kitchen, but most don’t recommend it due to the potential to break the grain packet.
Microwave heated slippers are a great treat as you get ready for bed on a cold night, or snuggle up on the couch to enjoy a movie.
