Naturally Cure Toenail Fungus With Oregano Oil
Toenail fungus, also known as onychomycosis, is an extremely common condition. Nails affected by this will often appear discolored and may grow weak and brittle or crumble and detach from the nail bed itself. Many sufferers are now finding that using oregano oil to treat toenail fungus is not only a natural alternative but often offers the most effective cure.
What is Oregano Oil?
Oregano oil has incredibly varied and highly effective medicinal properties. The wild oregano that is used to produce oregano oil is found only in certain mountain regions of the Mediterranean. The people inhabiting these areas have known the benefits of oregano oil and have been using it for the natural treatment of many conditions for several centuries. It is the oil in the leaves of the oregano plant that is extracted to produce oregano oil.
Oregano oil has powerful anti-fungal and anti-bacterial agents which is why it is effective in the treatment of toenail fungus. The main active ingredient of oregano oil is called carvacrol and it is recommended that you look for oils which contain at least 70% oregano carvacrol when deciding which product to buy.
One of the major benefits of using oregano oil is that has absolutely no known side effects whatsoever although some studies show it may have contra-indications for pregnant women or individuals with iron deficiencies and should be avoided in these cases.
Using Oregano Oil for Infected Toenail
Oregano oil can be purchased as capsules to be taken orally or in oil form which can be applied directly to the infected toenail. A drop or two of oregano oil can also be placed under the tongue from which it will enter the bloodstream and start to work its anti fungal properties around the body.
It is recommended that if applying oil directly to the toenail area it is used twice daily.
Oil of oregano can be quite expensive but, as it is hailed as a one bottle medicine chest which can be used in the treatment of over 170 different bodily conditions or dysfunctions, it is certainly worth considering the investment.
Oil of oregano seems to be attracting more and more endorsements from medical professionals and practitioners who have found that the oil has proved highly effective sometimes in cases where all other medicines have failed.
As the fungus that causes onychomycosis thrives in warm damp conditions it is advisable to take certain other precautions to precipitate the recovery rate. Always ensure your feet are dried thoroughly. Change your socks regularly, even several times a day initially if necessary, to ensure feet are always free of dampness. Expose your bare feet as much as possible to fresh air and wear breathable natural fabric socks such as cotton.
Treating toenail fungus with oregano oil is not a particularly fast cure according to those who have used it but as with so many natural remedies they work differently on different individuals. Toenail fungus can seem to be particularly stubborn to get rid of but with a little patience and meticulous application it would appear oil of oregano is one of, if not the most effective cure. You can also use vinegar to naturally treat toenail infections. This will be discussed in the second part of this article.
