Get into the habit of always using cold water for the final rinse on your face. This will not be a permanent solution but will temporarily shrink visible pores. Some people use crushed ice packs on their face for the same reason.

The best pore minimizing products

The best products to use for helping to shrink pores are those that contain astringents. Astringents are capable of shrinking body tissues which will tighten the skin and will go some way to shrinking the pores in the process. They will also work to reduce oiliness which will lead to blocked and open pores.

Doctors will often recommend astringents for acne treatment for the reasons mentioned. In addition, astringents are helpful for reducing the appearance of scars, stretch marks and wrinkles.

There are many natural products that have astringent properties and these include the juice and pulp of all citrus fruits particularly the following:

  • lemon and lime

  • vinegar
  • witch hazel
  • oatmeal
  • egg white

Home-made beauty products are easy to prepare and most of the ingredients may already be there in the kitchen.

Egg white and lemon juice – beat the egg white and add a little fresh lemon juice. Apply the mixture to the face either with fingers or cotton wool. Allow the mixture to dry thoroughly on your face. (You will feel it tightening) Rinse with warm water to remove stickiness and then finally rinse the face with very cold water.

Oatmeal, honey and apple cider vinegar – mix ingredients into a paste and apply to the face with fingers or a small spatula. Leave the mask on for around 20 minutes and then wash off with warm water. Finally rinse the face with very cold water.

Quantities don’t really matter and it is a case of experimenting a little to make mixtures that can be easily applied and that will stay in place.

Experiment a little with other ingredient mixes from the list above to find what works best for your own skin. Everybody is different.

Be aware that vinegar and citric juices can be irritants to those with sensitive skin. It is advisable to keep these ingredients to a minimum when you begin making home-made face masks to test the skin’s sensitivity.
