Can Stress Cause You To Make Bad Decisions?

A healthy tip to follow would be to avoid making decisions when you are under stress. When you are stressed you are more likely to make a decision that is not in your best interest. Stress creates a negative energy field within you and any action taken from this vantage point is suffused with a component of negativity, and based on the principles of Karma – when you work out of negative energy, you will end up attracting a similar energy back.

Stress and the Law of Attraction

If you have not been living under a rock, it’s likely that you would have heard of the term “law of attraction”. In simple terms, law of attraction states that you attract unto yourself circumstances which are a perfect match to your thoughts and feelings. Basically your thoughts, and resultant feelings, create your vibration. When you are under stress the vibration that is active within you is one of “negative” energy. So based on law of attraction, a stressed person actually becomes a magnet for attracting a negative situation.

So beyond refute, stress can cause you to make bad decisions. If you are in the process of taking some vital decisions it’s best to wait for a better feeling place before you make it.  Most people who make decisions under stress end up regretting it later, which causes them to get more stressed – this leads to a vicious cycle of stress in their life.

If you understand law of attraction, you will know that the best time to make decisions is when you are feeling positive or relaxed. Sometimes it’s unavoidable to make decisions, even when you know you are in stress, in such a case it’s best to calm yourself as best as you can before you make the decision.

How stress affects your mental processing

Studies have indicated that the body enters into a “fight or flight” response when a person is under stress. This is not a natural state for the body, and the physiology of such a state is not conducive to logical thinking. When you are under stress, you are likely to have an increased blood pressure which interrupts the smooth flow of blood to your brain.

It has also been seen that when a person is under stress he/she is likely to breath in short gasps rather than the normal “rhythmic” breathing. When you are not breathing normally, the oxygen levels in your blood goes down and this directly affects the functioning of your brain. So stress is highly detrimental to cognitive thinking.

So in all regards, stress will result in you making a bad decision. It’s not easy to jump out of a vibration of stress, but you can try snapping out of it by consciously breathing for a while or just relaxing your body through some form of meditation. It’s in your best interest to avoid making critical decisions under stress.
