Teenagers are usually considered to be a troublesome lot as far as the parents are concerned. If you look at it, teenage is quite a middle phase of one’s development. A teenager does not have the independence of being a kid anymore and he/she does not have the freedom of being an adult yet. A teenager is making a transition from childhood to adulthood, so this marks a very important phase in their life.
Most teenagers exhibit some form of rebellion in their effort to stamp their individuality. It’s also common for teenagers to have radical mood swings and impulsive behaviors, mostly due to the influx of hormones, bodily changes, neural development and peer influences.
In this article we will discuss some creative relaxation techniques for teens. Using these creative techniques a teenager can cope better with his/her moods and impulses. Here’s what you can do as a teenager to stay relaxed.
1.) Join a sports club – Taking up a sport is a great way to relax your mind and body. A male teenager, especially, is usually very aggressive due his teenage years and needs a venue to let off his excessive energy. Taking up sports like tennis, football, basketball, baseball or cricket can be a fun way to burn off the excess aggression, leaving one feeling relaxed. A female teenager can take up these sports too or take up arts like dancing or gymnastics.
2.) Take up meditation – This is a great way to relax for a teenager who has problems calming his/her mind. Many teenagers suffer from anxiety and stress related issues, and meditation can be great way to bring an inner balance in oneself. Great way to unleashing your creativity.
3.) Take up outdoor activities – Cycling and hiking can be great outdoor activities that have the capacity to relax your mind and body. Exercise is the best relaxation technique for teens because it involves physical and mental stimulation which most of them need. As a teenager you can find a group of friends to go hiking on weekends or go cycling every evening. You can also take up fun and creative activities like rowing, fishing, skiing or skating.
4.) Listen to music of different genres – Music is known to soothe the mind and produce harmonious vibrations through the body. Most teenagers, nowadays, are influenced by the popular culture and go in for techno, metal or rap music, but it’s much more relaxing to listen to smooth music like jazz. As a teenager you should try out different genres of creative music to find what you like instead of sticking to the “peer popular” music.
5.) Read a lot of literature – Teenagers can benefit tremendously if they take up an interest in reading literature. Not only is reading a great creative relaxation technique for teens, but it also enhances ones cognitive abilities.
