Health Issues that Can Arise From Work Related StressThe following health issues can arise from work related stress:Indigestion and constipation Gastric disorders in general are frequent results of continued stress. Some employees have the tendency to gobble down their lunch without even being aware of what they are eating because their mind is continuously anxious about their work. Eating a hasty junk food lunch or skipping meals while working is quite common these days, the result of course is digestive upsets. It is quite well known in medical circles that acute stress and anxiety are direct causes of constipation and improper bowel movements. Nervous disorders Many people have been diagnosed with nervous breakdowns due to acute job stress. Continuous anxiety, depression or restlessness will have this affect on ones nerves. Addiction to opiates like cigarettes and coffee serve to aggravate the condition. Sleeplessness Job stress can have a direct affect on the quality of your sleep. Most people tend to recount their negative experiences at the work place or worry about the future deadlines and projects while in their bed. A disturbed mind will keep you awake, or even wake you up in the middle of the night, leaving you tired and un-rested the next day. Lack of appetite Feelings of anxiety due to increased work pressure or other job related issues can trigger a loss of appetite. Depression at the work place would cause the motor functions that dictate hunger and appetite to shutdown. In some acute cases, fear of performance keeps the employees glued to their work stations even during the lunch breaks basically the fear overrides the basic instinct of hunger. Hair loss It is quite evident in experience that stress leads to hair loss. In several cases, people who have taken up stressful job positions observed an increased graying of their hair and hair fall. There is medical evidence citing that increased stress can trigger free radicals in the blood stream that in turn affect the hair follicles. Reduced sex drive Depression and excessive anxiety are both detrimental to a healthy mental state. When there is a lack of well being the body is known to reduce the libido. Moreover excessive preoccupation with work stress causes a severe dissipation of vital energy force in the body. Most people tend to ignore the symptoms of work place stress because it almost seems the normally prevalent condition in most workplaces. The problem is that continued presence of these symptoms will eventually start off a plethora of health issues from this work related stress.
