Natural Home Remedies to Cure Toothache
Toothache can be extremely painful and can really stop you in your tracks. The pain of a sore tooth may be so severe that you might need to take the day off work or find it difficult to get on with your usual day to day tasks. Toothaches are common we have all been kept up at night with that terrible shooting pain!
Clearly toothache is a sign that you should visit the dentist. But while you are waiting for you appointment there are some well known natural home remedies that can help you deal with the toothache and make you more comfortable:
- Onion- Onion has anti-bacterial properties, so will kill of any germs which will reduce the pain. Just eat some raw onion, chewing it for a couple of minutes. If you don’t like the taste, combine it in a salad, yum!
- Garlic- Placing a garlic clove on your aching tooth is a well known home remedy which will lessen the pain as well as kill of germs. If you like garlic, you can even chew it!
- Clove Oil- Clove oil treats infection as well as significantly reduces pain caused by toothache. Just rub some clove oil on your painful tooth.
- Ice- This won’t treat infection, but will definitely numb your mouth to relieve your toothache. Suck on an ice cube or make an ice compress and hold it on the side of your cheek. And no, unfortunately ice cream does not do the same trick!
- Salt water- Salt is a disinfectant so will help to kill of any bacteria which may be causing your toothache. Gargle a bit of salt water 3 times per day. It won’t taste great, but will help your sore tooth!
- Alcohol- A small amount of whisky or vodka rubbed on to the aching tooth and gum will help ease the pain. If you like the sound of this one, you may even want to take a swig! Obviously you don’t need to go out and get merry, so an alcohol based mouthwash should also do the trick.
- Vanilla Extract- Rubbing vanilla extract on the aching tooth will numb the area and provide some temporary relief. Repeat as many times as necessary throughout the day.
- Wheat Grass- In the from of juice it makes a great toothache remedy because it draws out bacteria from the gums and that may be what is causing you pain.
So there you have it! We have all been there, moaning and groaning and wanting to pull out that aching tooth. The above natural home remedies should at least help to ease off the pain and make the experience slightly less troublesome. Make an appointment with your dentist so that you can determine the underlying cause of your toothache and eliminate the pain forever.
